Herdshare Handbook

A helpful guide for navigating your membership.

About the Farm

Hope Springs Dairy is a small, family-run farm in Bend, Oregon, dedicated to producing clean, nutrient-rich raw milk the way nature intended. Our cows are 100% grass-fed and pasture-raised, grazing freely on open fields around the clock. They eat only fresh grass and organic hay—no grain, no confinement—resulting in pure, healthy milk that reflects the land it comes from.

We proudly offer A2A2 raw milk, easier to digest and naturally rich in enzymes, probiotics, and fat-soluble vitamins. Nothing is pasteurized or homogenized, so every pour retains its full flavor and nutrition. Serving Bend, Redmond, Sisters, and the surrounding Central Oregon community, we handle every step right here on our farm—so you always know exactly where your milk comes from, and the family who stands behind it.

Membership Perks

By joining our herdshare, you become a co-owner in our herd — giving your family access to fresh, high-quality raw milk straight from our pasture-raised cows. Instead of the work and expense of keeping dairy animals yourself, you enjoy all the benefits of farm-fresh milk with none of the daily chores.

‍

Your one-time share purchase secures your portion of the herd, and your monthly care fee supports the ongoing feed, upkeep, and labor it takes to care for the cows. In return, you receive your share of nutrient-rich, 100% grass-fed A2/A2 milk each week — wholesome, local, and produced with the same care we give our own family.

‍

Additional perks include:

  • Ability to customize your number of half or full gallons per pickup

What am I agreeing to by joining?

A herdshare is an agreement between a farmer and an individual. A person pays a one-time purchase fee to buy a share in our herd, making them co-owners in our herd and entitled to the benefits of owning a dairy cow.

Quite simply, one share gives them approximately one gallon of milk per week, so multiple shares may be required based off of their individual needs. With a herdshare we are not selling milk, we are being paid to take care of other peoples’ animals. What we do is not unlike boarding horses, many people enjoy owning and riding horses, but not everyone has the appropriate facilities or time it takes to care for their horses everyday, that’s where we step in.

After the initial purchase, all that remains is a monthly fee for the up keep, feed and ultimately the labor for our services. Now our co-owners can enjoy the right amount of high quality fresh milk for their families without the hassle of taking care of the  cows themselves.

Please review the herdshare member terms and conditions here.

Do you use antibiotics or hormones?

No. Our cows are raised naturally, without synthetic hormones, antibiotics, or chemical treatments. If a cow ever requires medical attention, she’s treated with care and temporarily removed from production until she’s fully healthy.

Member Tips & Resources

Raw Milk Storage Tips

We bottle our milk fresh, ensuring peak flavor and longevity compared to grocery store gallons. Follow these tried and true tips to make that farm-fresh flavor last:

  • Refridgerate ASAP. Store raw milk at or below 38°F (3°C) as soon as possible after pickup. The colder it stays, the longer it lasts. Even short periods above 40°F can shorten shelf life and affect flavor.
  • Pour Fresh. When using milk, pour what you need into a separate container — never drink straight from the jar. Returning a used jar to the fridge introduces bacteria that can spoil the milk faster.
  • ‍Store in the reusable glass jars provided. Glass helps maintain the milk’s flavor and temperature better than plastic. Avoid metal containers, which can react with the milk’s natural enzymes.
Remember to thoroughly wash your glass jars before returning them!
